A total of 150 jobs are to be created with the establishment of a new manufacturing plant in Leixlip, Co Kildare, it has been announced.

The jobs will be created by MGS.Mfg, a provider of engineered manufacturing solutions to the plastics industry.

The company is to invest more than $12m (€9.17m) over three years in a 150 person manufacturing facility in an existing 45,000 sq. ft building on the Hewlett Packard Campus in Leixlip.

MGS.Mfg says the Kildare facility will support its high-end customer base in Ireland where Hewlett Packard is one of its main customers.

It will also supply product for the European market.

"Manufacturing forms a key part of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, and recently my Department established a Manufacturing Development Forum led by industry experts to drive the creation of 20,000 additional jobs in the sector across multinational as well as indigenous companies by 2016," said Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton.

"Today’s announcement that this leading international engineering and manufacturing company is locating a high-end facility in Ireland with the creation of 150 jobs is great news and a strong indication of the potential for jobs expansion in this area.

"I am determined that, with continued strong implementation of the Action Plan for Jobs we will see further announcements like this in the near future.

Michael Cummins, general manager, MGS.Mfg, said: "We are satisfied that now is the right time to establish a new polymer injection moulding and tooling facility in Leixlip, Co Kildare.

"This facility will support our high end customer base in both Ireland, where Hewlett Packard manufacturing operations are one of MGS's key partners, and other European Markets.

"We are pleased with the talented workforce in the region and to join the many premier multinational companies that call Ireland home."

Welcoming today announcement, Barry O’Leary, IDA CEO, said: "MGS Mfg Group is a leading innovator within the plastics industry.

"Today’s investment by MGS Mfg Group, further adds to the cluster of IDA Ireland client companies that have chosen the Leixlip area as a location to base their operations.

"Attracting high-tech manufacturing companies is a key objective of IDA Ireland’s Strategy – Horizon 2020."
