Irish tourist hotspots are to be featured on the famous US game show Wheel of Fortune, which is giving one of its lucky contestants an all-expenses paid trip to Ireland, producers have confirmed.

The hosts of the show, Vanna White and Pat Sajak, along with dozens of the show's film crew, flew into the country last Monday to begin shooting promotional video scenes for the prize giveaway, which will feature on the hit gameshow next February.

Traffic was literally brought to a standstill in the village of Adare today when stars White and Sajak arrived to film some scenes of them baking scones and feeding lambs.

The show then travelled to the restored original 15th century Knappogue Castle, in Quin, Co Clare for a guided tour.

Yesterday, the game show series which has been on television screens for 41 years, recorded White and Sajak at the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher, looking out along the beautiful rugged Clare coastline towards the Atlantic Ocean.

Today in Adare, a number of gardaí chaperoned crew members and kept a watching brief on White and Sajak who also have their own personal security guards. The two hosts and their crew traveled in several black, 2016 registered Mercedes vans with blacked-out windows.

While on a break from filming at the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare, Ms White said she had fallen in love with Ireland.

"We've been filming around a load of places and we wish we could stay longer, for a holiday. I would like to live here. It's my first time, but it will not be my last," she added.

"I love it, I love everything about it, everything I thought it was, it's even more," she said.

Tony Shepherd, producer of global content for Disney Destinations who organise prizes of trips around the world for the show, said: "We unfortunately have to leave tomorrow. We've had so much fun though, it's been great."

"The Walt Disney company has a division, called Adventures by Disney, which are guided tours to various countries and regions around the world, including Ireland. And one of the trips that we will be giving away that week will be to Ireland.

"I don't have all the exact details but it's seven nights (duration) and it certainly comes to Adare. Everybody stays at Dromoland Castle, and they will visit Knappogue Castle. They get to make scones and feed lambs at a farm; there's all sorts of fun activities for them to do."

Adare has long been a hotspot for celebrity weddings, and has played host to the star-studded JP McManus Invitational Pro-Am, which has generated millions to the wider local economy.

Manager of the Adare Heritage Centre, Maeve Martin Kelly, said the game show's visit to Adare would give the village another big economic boost.

"Good publicity, especially from America, is fantastic for us. We deal with so many American tourists and we are always looking to build our profile in America, so this is amazing that Adare will be seen as a sought after destination. It gives us great encouragement to continue welcoming visitors to the village."
