It is understood a body was recovered at around 11am by a local fishing vessel.

It is being reported that the body was found in the sea between Toormore and Goleen.

Earlier: A major search operation is underway in West Cork for a missing fisherman.

The alarm was raised at 7.30pm yesterday evening when the man in his 60s failed to return to port in Schull from a fishing trip.

The search is concentrated in the Long Island Bay area following the discovery of the man's punt there around 8.30pm last night.

The inshore and all-weather RNLI lifeboats from Baltimore joined the operation along with Coast Guard helicopter 115 from Shannon, the LÉ Orla Navy ship and the Community Rescue Boat from Schull.

Locals were also supporting the search efforts.
