UPC refuses to provide An Post with information on TV licence avoidance

UPC has said it will not share data with An Post as part of its crackdown on people not paying for a TV licence.

Earlier, An Post said it will access Sky and UPC subscriptions to work out who has not paid the fee.

However, in a statement UPC said: UPC has noted the comments by Minister Rabbitte earlier today.

“UPC is not in a position to give An Post access to our cable subscription data because this would contravene our obligations under data protection.”

It is estimated that 15% of the population is evading the payment.
