Unions: Tuesday's strike will go ahead

Unions insist there is no way to avert Tuesday's public sector strike.

The Taoiseach says he is deeply disappointed the action is going ahead while efforts to find a basis of agreement on cuts are ongoing.

Brian Cowen's told ICTU there is potential to cause very serious disruption, inconvenience and economic loss through the strike action.

Fine Gael TD James Reilly said the cost of the public service had to come down through tackling inefficiencies.
