SIPTU is to ballot fire fighters for industrial action if the Department of Environment pushes through cost-saving measures.

Fire fighters are worried that the cuts could cause local authorities to reduce the number of staff manning a fire appliance.

The union said that it is finding it difficult to get exact information on the proposals from Government.
