Union boss: Semi-state pay cuts will not be tolerated
The General Secretary of the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) Eamon Devoy has said pay cuts to semi-state workers will not be tolertated.
It's reported that pay cuts for public servants, announced in the Budget last week, could be extended to those working in semi-state bodies like the ESB, CIE and the VHI.
The measure is expected to come up for discussion at tomorrow's Cabinet meeting.
Mr Devoy of the TEEU, which represents a large number workers in semi-state companies,
said the majority of these companies are making huge profits, so imposing cuts should not be an option:
"To come along and punish those workers in any way by reducing their pay would be unheard of an intolerable."
Mr Devoy promised to oppose any such move saying his union would go "toe-to-toe" with the Government on the issue.
