Ulster Bank chief unsure of IT staffing levels16/07/2012 - 15:26:26
Chief executive of Ulster Bank Jim Browne says he still does not know if reports that the bank's IT staffing levels were halved are true.
Browne was questioned about the matter by the Dáil's Finance Committee a few weeks ago, when the bank was called in to discuss the IT meltdown that led to severe problems for account holders.
Ulster Bank says today the backlog is now finally cleared and it's business as usual, for the most part, with less than 2% of customers still experiencing delays on their transactions.
Meanwhile Browne has admitted that he hasn't subsequently tried to find out if there was a major cull of IT workers by the firm's parent company RBS: "No, I did not specifically go and find that out because a separate, independent investigation is underway that has been appointed by the RBS board.
"That review is looking at all aspects and is already underway."
