UCD centre to spearhead fight against cyber crime

Justice Minister Alan Shatter has announced details of Ireland's involvement in an international plan to tackle cyber crime.

The €4m EU strategy, called '2Centre' is part of the European Commission's plan to safeguard governments, businesses and citizens.

It will see a centre of excellence established at University College Dublin, and another at a university in France.

The existing UCD Centre for Cybercrime Investigation will lead the network for training, research and education.

Researchers will develop solutions and support systems for European police forces in their fight against cyber crime.
