UCC award Barroso with honorary doctorate
The President of the European Commission has received an honorary doctorate from UCC.
José Manuel Barroso received the Degree of Doctor of Laws before a large audience of invited guests which included the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore.
In his acceptance speech, he praised Ireland's EU presidency and called for active citizenship in the year of EU elections.
Afterwards President Barroso met with university academics, members of Government and the business community.
