Two women and a man were arrested today in Co Offaly as part of a garda operation to combat organised crime in the midlands.

Two women and a man were arrested today in Co Offaly as part of a garda operation to combat organised crime in the midlands.

Gardaí said planned searches were carried out on a number of houses earlier this morning in the areas of Clara and Tullamore.

Three people were arrested (two females ranging in ages from late teens to 20 years and one male aged 23 years) during the operation and they are being detained under the provisions of Section 50 Criminal Justice Act 2007 as amended at Portlaoise, Tullamore and Birr Garda Stations.
