A new opinion poll out today shows that almost two thirds of people support government proposals to legislate for abortion in limited cases.

However, the Paddy Power Red C poll shows that one in four voters believes legislating for abortion on the grounds of a suicide threat is a step too far.

The poll also shows a steady decline in support for Fine Gael since the election.

The party has a support level of 29%, a drop of seven points over the past two years.

Labour remains steady on 13%, but are down 6% since election day.

Fianna Fail are up to 21%, up 4% since election day, while Sinn Féin is up 6% points since the election, to 16%.

Independents are on 21%.
