Two men held over damage to Phil Lynott statue

Two men in their 20s have been arrested in connection with damage to the statue of Phil Lynott.

The life-size bronze sculpture just off Grafton Street in Dublin was removed after it was pushed over in the early hours of this morning and almost split in two.

Both of the men presented themselves at Pearse St. Garda Station this evening.

"They were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, and have since been released without charge," a garda statement said.

A file on the matter is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The statue of the Thin Lizzy frontman has been taken away for repairs.
