A woman in her early 80s has died after she was struck by a car on the N11 in Dublin.

A woman in her early 80s has died after she was struck by a car on the N11 in Dublin.

It happened on the southbound carriageway close to Cabinteely Village shortly before 1pm today.

The woman was pronounced dead at scene and her body has been taken to Saint Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown (pictured).

A post mortem is due to take place.

The N11 southbound carriageway is currently closed at Cornelscourt while gardaí. Diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact Dun Laoghaire garda station 01 6665000, the Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any garda station.

Separately in Co Tipperary, a woman in her early 70s died after she was hit by a truck when she was crossing the road at Townspark, Carrick on Suir, on the Limerick to Waterford Road at around 1pm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The road is currently closed for a forensic collision examination.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
