Two detained in passport irregularities probe

Two employees from the Dublin passport office have been arrested as part of an on-going fraud investigation.

A man and a woman, both in their 30's, were detained after the Passport Service launched an internal investigation in the autumn of 2013 when checks revealed irregularities in the processing of three passports.

The Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation was then informed and a joint investigation was launched.

The woman has since been released and a file will be prepared for the DPP, while the man is still being held at Pearse Street Garda Station.

This investigation is unrelated to the investigation into fraud in the Passport Service which was made public in July 2013.
