Two dead on roads so far this bank holiday weekend

Two people have died on Irish roads so far this weekend, bringing the total number of fatalities since January to 76.

A man in his 50s was killed in a crash in Co Cork yesterday morning when the car he was driving struck a tree on the N72 at 10am.

A 40-year-old woman died following a hit and run incident in Dublin last night.

She had been crossing the road at the Golden Bridge LUAS stop in Drimnagh at around 10pm - investigating officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The Gardai's road safety campaign "Operation Slow Down" is continuing across the country this evening.

974 people were caught speeding yesterday.
