Two charged with gun possession

Two men charged with having a gun and ammunition in Dundalk were remanded until October by the Special Criminal Court today.

Thomas Kelly (aged 26), Killinarden Estate, Tallaght, Dublin 24 and Eugene Kelly (aged 42), Ashling Park, Cox's Demesne, Dundalk, Co Louth are each charged with possession of a 9mm parabellum calibre Glock model 26 semi-automatic pistol and fifty rounds of CC1 make 9mm parabellum calibre ammunition at Castletown Rd, Dundalk, Co Louth on Saturday last, July 19.

Eugene Kelly is also charged with membership of an illegal organisation styling itself the Irish National Liberation Organisation, otherwise the INLA on the same date.

Bail was fixed for Thomas Kelly on condition that he sign on daily at Tallaght garda station, that he reside at Cushlawn Dale, Tallaght and obey a curfew between 10pm and 7am, and that he should not associate with anyone convicted of or charged with a scheduled offence.

The court fixed bail for Thomas Kelly at an independent surety of €20,000 and his own bond of €100.

Both men were remanded until October 8 next.
