Two men have been arrested after an attempted armed robbery at a shop in Waterford last night.

Two men have been arrested after an attempted armed robbery at a shop in Waterford last night.

Gardaí say a man armed with a handgun tried to hold up staff at a shop on Cork Road in the city just before midnight.

The culprit fled the scene, while no money was stolen and no one was injured.

Two men in their 30s were arrested during follow-up searches.

Both suspects are being questioned at Waterford Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A firearm has also been recovered.
