Twelve years for Donegal farmer guilty of sexually abusing seven children

A Donegal farmer has been jailed for 12 years for the sexual abuse of seven children.

Forty-three-year-old Peter Corcoran of Dunmore, Falcarragh pleaded guilty to 15 sample counts of indecent assault, sexual assault and rape between 1984 and 2000.

His five male and two female victims describe Peter Corcoran as evil, very clever and opportunistic.

Dressed in a suit and tie, the Donegal farmer showed no emotion when a sentence of 15 years jail with the final three years suspended was handed down today.

Corcoran was only a teenager of 15 or 16 when he began abusing girls and boys in his area, some as young as seven or eight years old.

One of the women gave evidence of her horror when years later he showed up as a guest at her wedding, having been told not to come.

A man raped as a teenager by Corcoran said it was hard to come forward about the abuse because he was 'very highly thought of' in the community.

In 2010, a male victim plucked up the courage to give a statement to gardaí and others followed.
