Gardaí in Co. Offaly investigating a shooting incident at Cluain Darach yesterday evening have arrested a man.

A man and woman were shot in front of a seven-year-old boy at their home as the man was making his way into a house on the Cluain Darach estate in Tullamore at about 7pm last night.

The man, aged 32, and a woman were wounded and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí said a gunman jumped from a car outside the house and fired shots as the man was entering the house with the boy.

It is understood the child is the woman’s seven-year-old son.

The gunman made good his escape in a waiting car and the injured man and woman were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital at Tullamore.

A car believed to have been used in the attack was later found burned out in Durrow, Co Offaly.

Early this morning Gardaí from Tullamore arrested a man in his early 20’s in Co Offaly.

He is currently being detained at Tullamore Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
