Tuesday's Luas strike action has been called off

Next Tuesday's strike by Luas drivers has been called off, pending the outcome of talks on Monday.

Transdev, the company which runs the Luas, and SIPTU which represents the workers, are due to attend the WRC on Monday.

In a statement this evening, Transdev welcomes the cancellation of the March 8th action and says it anticipates these talks will be difficult and long, given the scale of the pay claim before the company.

The Minister for Transport, Paschal Donohoe said the cancellation of strike action next Tuesday is a step in the right direction, and encouraged both sides to engage fully and reasonably to resolve differences.

SIPTU's Owen Reidy has said it is too early to say if the other planned industrial action will be called off: “To be fair to the WRC they intervened, we have accepted their offer and we have received written confirmation from the company that they will also accept their offer, so our officials will write to the company this afternoon cancelling the 24hour stoppage Tuesday March 8, which is good news but I would say we have a long way to go.

“There is a lot of work to do to try and reach an agreement so we can avoid any further action that is scheduled.”
