Trust in charities on the increase again, says Fundraising Ireland chief
New research shows public trust could be slowly returning to the charity sector.
Some 1.1 million people made a donation to a Christmas charity appeal, according to a new study by Amárach released this morning.
It follows several months of controversy in the wake of the controversies surrounding the Rehab Group and the Central Remedial Clinic.
Most people giving to charity do so through a church or street donation, or by buying something from a charity shop.
CEO of Fundraising Ireland Anne Hanniffy says the research is encouraging.
"Donations were up slightly from last year," she said.
"one in three people were giving donations for Christmas appeals.
And also, two out of three people gave more than they did last year - that is the average donation went up from €10 to €12.
"And probably one of the most important things this piece research shows is that trust in charities is on the increase again."
