There are significant delays on the Galway to Dublin road after a truck burst into flames this morning.

There are significant delays on the Galway to Dublin road after a truck burst into flames this morning.

It is understood that the truck was stopped on the eastbound side of the M6 around 15km past Athlone when it burst into flames.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to deal with the fire, but it is understood that there was no injuries.

There are no delays on approach but care is needed due to smoke and visibility may be affected.

According to AA Roadwatch the Galway/ Dublin Rd is closed until further notice eastbound between J7 Moate West and J6 Moate East due to a truck fire.

Motorists are being diverted off at J7 and through Moate.
