A man in his sixties has been rescued from Glendalough in Co. Wicklow.

He became trapped in a gorge, after attempting to rescue his dog at about 3.30 PM.

It happened on the side of the Poulanass waterfall in the valley.

Local mountain rescue team members were able to attend the scene within minutes, and were able to bring the uninjured man (and his dog) back to safety this evening.

The operation took just over 2 hours to complete, because of the difficult terrain.

Rescuers used rope skills and swift-water rescue techniques to reach the man.
