A transatlantic flight has made an unscheduled landing at Dublin Airport this evening after a passenger was reported to have fallen ill.

British Airways flight BA-69 was about an hour into its journey from London to Philadelphia when it turned around over the Atlantic, west of Mayo, and diverted to Dublin.

Its understood that a woman in her 60s had complained of feeling unwell and the crew was advised to divert and land.

The crew dumped aviation fuel over the Atlantic while routing to Dublin to ensure they touched down within safe landing-weight limits.

Airport paramedics were standing by for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner when it touched down at 7.55pm.

The passenger is expected to be transported to hospital for assessment while the flight is due to continue its journey later.

Its believed the woman is not seriously ill but the crew opted to divert as a precaution.
