Gardaí have said that a body found in Co Mayo yesterday is believed to be that of Ballina woman Joanne Reilly (Wynne), who had been the subject of a missing persons alert.

Gardaí in the town had issued an appeal yesterday about the 39-year-old, who had been missing since the early hours of Monday from St. Muredach’s Terrace in Ballina.

A body was discovered at 12.30pm yesterday afternoon, gardaí said.

At this point the death is being described as a 'personal tragedy'.

No further details were released.

In a statement her family thanked supporters for their help in spreading the news about her disappearance.
