Tony O'Reilly's Castlemartin sold for €28m

Former billionaire Tony O'Reilly's Castlemartin estate is to be sold to a US media mogul for €28m.

The 750-acre stud farm in Co Kildare was offered for sale following a Commercial Court judgement in favour of AIB last June.

It has been bought by UPC owner John Malone, the largest landowner in the United States.

Castlemartin was the most significant part of Tony O'Reilly's portfolio. He has sold off his Dublin and Cork homes in order to pay off some of his debt to AIB.

Celebrities such as Bill Clinton and Mick Jagger have been among the atendees at the estate over the years.
