A toddler remains in a critical condition in hospital this morning following a two-car collision in Co Roscommon.

A toddler remains in a critical condition in hospital this morning following a two-car collision in Co Roscommon.

The crash happened shortly before 9am yesterday.

The two-year-old boy is fighting for his life this morning after he sustained serious head injuries in the two-car collision at Currinah, Ballaghderreen.

The little boy was initially air lifted from the scene to University College Hospital, Galway but was later transferred to Temple St. children's hospital in Dublin.

The crash happened where the main road meets a new bypass which is still under construction.

The toddler was one of three children in the car being driven by their mother which collided with a taxi.

The woman and the taxi driver were also injured in the crash, as were two other children. They were all brought to Mayo General Hospital with minor injuries.

Gardaí are anxious to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
