A toddler has died following an accident at a family home close to the family's equestrian centre in West Cork.
The boy, who was almost two, suffered serious injuries when he was struck by the divider from a horse box in the Goleen area around lunchtime.
It is understood he was playing in the yard of the house this afternoon when the accident happened.
Just before 2pm, his father heard a scream. When he ran out, he found a steel divider had fallen on his son and pinned him to the ground.
The child was airlifted from a landing site in Toormore to Bishopstown GAA grounds in the city before transfer by ambulance to nearby CUH at around 2.45pm.
Despite the best efforts of the medical team there, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority have launched separate investigations.
