The head of the Irish foster care association has said it is wrong that there are no repercussions for incompetence in the HSE.
Diarmuid Kearney was reacting after serious allegations of abuse were made against a foster home in the south east.
He said it was time for accountability in the HSE.
He also said social workers have not been making enough visits to foster homes: “Each child in social care should have what is called a link social worker who works directly with the foster carer.
“They should be visiting them perhaps every couple of weeks, supporting, liasing with them and it is really important that they are supported in that.
“Unfortunately resources have meant that that is not the case, and there have been occasions when foster carers have not seen a social worker from one year to the next.”
