Three water protesters facing contempt proceeding

Three anti-water charge protesters will find out today if they will be jailed for contempt of court.

GMC Sierra, the company carrying out the installations in North Dublin, claims the demonstrators have breached an injunction by coming within 20 metres of the work stations.

GMC Sierra is mainly relying on video evidence to back up its claims that the three protesters were within 20 metres of the water meter installations.

The exclusion zone was put in place by a court order earlier this month over claims by the company that certain anti water charge demonstrators were harassing their workers.

Eight video clips were shown in court on Monday

Lawyers for the protesters said the video evidence had not been properly authenticated – and they questioned whether there was any work going on at the meter stations at the time of the alleged infringements.

Mr Justice Paul Gilligan will rule this morning whether the three protesters were in contempt of the order and what if any, action should be taken.
