Three young female students from University College Cork were injured in today's bus crash in Spain, which claimed the lives of 13 people.

Three young female students from University College Cork were injured in today's bus crash in Spain, which claimed the lives of 13 people.

It was carrying around 50 Erasmus exchange students when it hit a car and overturned on the main road between Barcelona and Valencia.

Two of the Cork students remain in hospital tonight with non life threatening injuries according to the Irish Embassy in Spain.

The third Irish woman has been released.

The Irish students were on a coach which was returning from a fireworks festival in Valencia.

The Irish embassy have declined to comment on speculation in the Spanish media that the bus driver may have fallen asleep.

Local media is reporting that those on board the bus were from Ireland, Britain, Switzerland, Norway, Turkey, Ukraine and Barcelona.
