Gardaí have detained a man overnight in connection with the death of a woman in Dublin at the weekend.

The body of Sonia Blount, who was in her early 30s, was found by housekeeping staff at the Plaza hotel at 3.30pm yesterday afternoon. It is believed she had been strangled.

A man in his 20s was arrested last night, and is being questioned at Tallaght Garda station.

Elsewhere, two men in their 30s and 40s remain in custody at Portlaoise Garda Station this morning, following the fatal stabbing of a 26-year-old Latvian man.

Aleksander Karpov was found dead in his home on Spa Street in Portarlington at around 5pm on Saturday afternoon.

Investigations are also continuing into the death of Thomas "Toddy" Dooley, who was in his mid-60s, and was found dead at his home in Sister Senan Court in Edenderry, County Offaly at 2.45pm yesterday afternoon.
