Three brothers' bodies found in two Cork locations

The bodies of three brothers have been found at two separate locations in Co Cork. A major investigation is underway after the discoveries in Charleville and Buttevant.

The first discovery was made at a house on the N20 just outside Charleville at around 5pm when a male relative, believed to be their brother, found the bodies of two young boys.

They are believed to have been aged nine, and were twins. Initial reports suggest the two boys had been stabbed.

The house (pictured) was sealed off, and the road outside - the main route between Cork and Limerick - closed.

Around an hour later, gardaí discovered the body of a young man - believed to have been in his early 20s - in Buttevant, around 10 minutes drive away.

He is believed to have been a brother to the boys found dead in Charleville, and gardaí are investigating whether the incidents are linked.

Both scenes remain sealed off, and forensic teams and the State Pathologist are en route.

Gardaí said the two boys were pronounced dead at the house.

“The bodies remain at the scene and the area has been sealed off for technical examination. Diversions are in place,” the Garda press office said in a statement.

“The office of the State Pathologist has been notified and post mortems are expected to be carried out tomorrow on the bodies of the two children.”

Gardaí in Charleville appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them or any other Garda station.

A number of emergency services vehicles, including ambulances, remained at the scene several hours after the discovery.

A large crowd of people gathered on the road outside the property and a long line of cars were parked nearby.

Gardaí manned two checkpoints on the northern and southern sides of the main road about two miles from the house, believed to be a family home.
