Three arrested over Belfast 'gangland murder'

Three people have been arrested in an investigation into a suspected gangland murder in Belfast.

Stephen Carson, 28, was shot in the head on Thursday night at a house in the south of the city after a group of armed men broke in as he was eating dinner with his partner and nine-year-old son.

Police arrested three men aged 32, 37 and 39 on suspicion of murder following searches in west Belfast on Friday night.

A firearm was recovered.

The victim, who had recently been released from prison, tried to hide in the bathroom of the Walmer Street house when the attackers forced entry, but they shot him with a shotgun through the door.

He sustained fatal injuries to his head, dying later in hospital.
