Three men have been arrested by gardaí targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Co Louth area.

Three men have been arrested by gardaí targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Co Louth area.

As part of an intelligence-led operation, gardaí from the Garda National Drugs Unit stopped a car in the Drogheda area yesterday afternoon.

A 28-year-old male was arrested and a quantity of drugs seized.

As part of a follow-up operation this morning, a second car was stopped and an apartment searched.

Two further males were arrested, one aged in his 30s, the other aged in his 50s, and a further quantity of drugs seized.

In total cannabis herb, cannabis plants, cocaine and heroin with an estimated street value in excess of €1m (pending analysis) was seized.

A 28-year-old male is scheduled to appear before a Special Sitting of Ardee District Court at 3pm today charged in connection with this seizure.

The two other males remain in custody at Droghada Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
