Third-level scholarships launched for disadvantaged students

A new third-level scholarship is being launched to assist high-achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The bursary of €2,000 a year will replace the previous schemes abolished in last December's Budget.

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn said the scheme would be extended to cover a total of 350 college entrants in the coming years.
