There is a jobs event in Dublin tonight for people who want to work in the West of Ireland

High-tech companies in the West and the Mid-West are in "recruitment mode" and urgently seeking key talent from outside the regions, the IDA has said.

Niall O’Callaghan, IDA Regional Manager for the Mid-West, said a tech eco-system is being developed in the West and Mid-West of the country and the requirement for talent has never been greater.

Ahead of TechWest 2016, being held in the Gibson Hotel in Dublin at 6pm this evening, Mr O’Callaghan said: "In the last month alone, we have had announcements of almost 1,000 jobs in the Mid-West that will be created over the next three to five years and they are mainly in the tech space."

TechWest 2016 will showcase jobs on offer in the West and Mid-West regions and outline the opportunities available to those open to moving to there.

The event was organised by Recruitment and HR Services Group Collins McNicholas — the only national recruitment company headquartered outside Dublin — in association with AIB and the Western Development Commission (WDC).

Mr O’Callaghan said: "A lot of the companies that we work with in the Mid-West region are in recruitment mode.

"Our clients have a range of roles that they are trying to fill and are doing everything they can to attract talent back to the regions."

He added that many of the people relocating to the regions were originally from the area and had gone to Dublin or London to complete their studies or get their careers started.

He said: "They are now at a stage in their lives where they want to settle down and they see genuine opportunities in places such as Shannon, Galway and Limerick.

"Also, the cost of living in comparison to Dublin really makes it an easy choice."

Gillian Nicholson, Principal Consultant with Collins McNicholas, said: "Some companies are hiring multiple developers or IT analysts and recruitment experts say the rate of new ICT roles are increasing each month.

"Counties like Galway, Limerick, Mayo and Clare are seeing a height of activity in the ICT sector and you can now find your perfect career opportunity whilst experiencing a better quality of life by moving to the West or Mid-West."

Collins McNicholas experts will also run a CV Clinic for attendees to have their CV assessed and matched with potential job opportunities.

Many of the jobs available there include IT specialists, engineers, software developers and data analysts.

Companies such as Galway-based AltoCloud and Limerick-based ACI Worldwide and General Motors will speak at the event.

Other companies involved in the event included Galway-based Altocloud, Cisco and SL Controls, as well as Limerick-based General Motors and Mayo companies Happy Media & Marketing and Zoomi.
