Staff at Tecnotree in Shannon were called into a meeting and warned the redundancies will be decided next month.

In a short statement the company blamed the reduction in demand and global economic conditions.

It is understood the cuts affect more than half the firm’s 141 workforce.

Tecnotree bought over an Indian company, Lifetree, in May of this year and it is understood Irish staff were sent to Asia to work with staff.

The company also let go 20 staff last month in Finland.

In a stock exchange statement, Tecnotree said: “Tecnotree announces that it is considering a proposed reduction in its workforce in the Irish subsidiary.

“Current estimates expect a personnel reduction in Ireland of up to 80 personnel.”
