Teen held after Dublin carjacking
Gardaí have arrested a teenager after a taxi was hijacked in Dublin this morning and the driver threatened with a knife.
The incident happened at approximately 5.25am when the taxi stopped for a fare on Terenure Road North.
A 15-year-old teenager is understood to have got into the taxi and threatened the taxi driver - a 36-year- old man - with a knife. He demanded money and told the taxi driver to get out of the car.
Gardaí say the teenager drove off in the car in the direction of the city.
It collided with another vehicle on the Old Cabra road in Dublin 7 at around 5.45am. The youth fled the scene but was arrested by gardaí a short distance away.
He was taken to Rathmines Garda station where he is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. No one was injured during the incident.
The incident is the third 'carjacking' in Dublin in a week.
A heavily pregnant woman in her 30s was injured in a carjacking near Mountjoy Square on May 12, while a woman and her two children were threatened by an armed robber when their car was hijacked in Terenure on Friday afternoon.
