Technology retailer to create 220 jobs for Christmas season

Dixons Carphone has today announced the creation of 220 seasonal jobs ahead of the busy Christmas shopping season.

The new part-time jobs will be based across the Group’s 125 stores nationwide, including Carphone Warehouse and Curry’s PC World .

The roles include retail staff and sales and customer support, along with a number of commercial positions at Group head office.

Recruitment has begun and the company hope to have all positions filled within the next month.

There are 98 Carphone Warehouse stores and 27 Currys PC World stores across the country.

Announcing the new positions today, Mark Slater, managing director, Dixons Carphone said that the company is looking for talented, energetic and tech-savvy people to work across all parts of the business.

"Christmas, both pre-and post, is the busiest time of the year and we’re pleased to report that Christmas shopping has already started here in Ireland," he said.

"Our seasonal staff each year are key to managing this busy period and delivering for our customers.

"In particular this year, we’re looking for tech-savvy candidates as our technology products, including phones and tablets, remain a top seller so people with tech knowledge and experience will be required to advise our customers."

According to recent figures from Retail Excellence Ireland, the third quarter of this year was the best quarterly performance since 2007 for the retail sector.

Sales were up 5.5% on the same period last year with sales topping €3.3bn across 4,000 stores in Ireland.

"The earlier start to Christmas shopping this year is telling," said Mr Slater.

"The retail sector is bouncing back with strong consumer demand which will intensify over the next few months.

"The new seasonal roles are also an opportunity for people looking for permanent positions as many of our part time team have gone on to secure full time positions within the Group."

The Dixons Carphone plc operates across nine countries employing over 40,000 people.
