Teachers' group wants new agreement on cuts

The Irish Federation of University Teachers in Ireland is warning the Government that they will not engage in further talks in relation to proposed cuts under Croke Park Two.

The group is holding their annual conference in Dublin this afternoon and have called on the Government to scrap the extension to the existing agreement.

President of the IFUT, Dr Maria Clark, told the gathering, which was also attended by the Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte, that the third-level education sector simply cannot take any more cuts.

She said: "University funding in 2008 and 2012 is decreased by 25%.

"I think what needs to happen is that discussion needs to take place, not on the existing proposals, but certainly in relation to pushing forward new proposals or a new agreement where people can be involved."
