Teacher jailed for bid to smuggle cocaine


A South African school teacher has been jailed for almost five years for attempting to smuggle cocaine worth over €420,000 through Heathrow Airport into Dublin.

Annabella Momple, who holds dual Irish and South African citizenship, arrived into Heathrow on December 3 last on a flight from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Sniffer dogs were used to apprehend the 45-year-old who was carrying towels soaked in cocaine solution.

They contained the equivalent of around 2.5kg of pure cocaine.

Momple was supposed to have flown onwards to Dublin.
