A number of TDs have staged a protest outside the Dáil calling for the immediate release of activist Margaretta D'Arcy.

The 79-year-old anti-war activist from Galway was sentenced to three months in prison last month after she trespassed onto the runway at Shannon Airport.

She was protesting against the use of the airport as a stop over point for the US Military.

TDs Mary Lou McDonald, Clare Daly, Joan Collins and Catherine Murphy tied yellow ribbons to the gates of Leinster House this morning, in protest against Margaretta's jail sentence.
