Independent TD Denis Naughten has revealed he has gone to the Gardaí over anonymous threats.
He was responding to the news that his Roscommon-South Leitrim constituency colleague, Fine Gael's Frank Feighan, has notified the Gardaí over a death threat he received in the post.
Deputy Feighan posted pictures of extracts from the letter on his Twitter account on Monday.
Part of a letter I got in post today. Have notified Garda. 4 years of threats and abuse continue as I leave politics. pic.twitter.com/bjnL4dZmwY

Denis Naughten (above) said unfortunately threats like these had become a regular occurrence for TDs.
"Every TD has had it. We all deal with it in our own ways. I've been in contact with the Gardaí," he said.
"Every single one of the 166 TDs would have been, at one stage or another over the last number of years, in contact with (the Gardaí).
"It's terrible that we have to use Garda time and resources to do that, but at the end of the day you don’t want individuals like that making very open threats to individuals."
