Taxi drivers to protest in Dublin
09/05/2009 - 08:52:21The "Taxi drivers for change" organisation is holding a protest in Dublin city centre this afternoon, as part of its ongoing campaign for a license moratorium.
Up to 3,000 drivers and their families are expected to take part in the march at 12pm this afternoon, from Parnell Square to Molesworth Street.
It's the 13th protest the organisation has mounted during the course of the last four months.
Spokesperson Frank Byrne says drivers are particularly concerned about this week's hike in the cost of renewing their drivers’ licenses – from €3 to €250.
He said drivers were worried that they might be hit with a similar increase on the renewal fee of their car taxi licenses, which would leave many full-time drivers unemployed.
