Taskforce on youth mental health criticised for having no seats for young people

Young people are calling for their voices to be heard on the National Taskforce on Youth Mental Health.

The advisory body, which was set up by the Minister of State for Mental Health Helen McEntee earlier this year, features numerous youth representative organisations but no seats were given to young people.

Oisin Donohoe from Mallow, who will be taking part in a discussion panel with Minister McEntee at a Youth work Ireland conference in Dublin today, said: "I think one main thing is the fact that the advisory panel for the Minister doesn't actually have a young person, and I think we need to have a voice for the panel.

"I think it would be very helpful because there's probably a lack of communication between the younger people and the Ministers, and it would just be kind of useful for both sides so we can understand a little bit better what's going on."
