Taoiseach Enda Kenny has acknowledged in his Christmas message that the season has brought “a sense of trepidation to many families”.
Pointing to the added pressure on household budgets, the Fine Gael leader said: “I know this has taken its toll on you, but I also believe we can look to the future with a little more confidence and hope”.
He began his message by admitting that “every household has endured a lot” since the arrival of the Troika.
“I wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas with your families, your friends, your loved ones,” he concluded.
“I wish you the special blessings of Christmas - the time spent in each others company, the love of those closest to us, the goodwill of our families and communities, as one year draws to a close and we face another in the spirit of togetherness.”
