Taoiseach: Water meter charges 'will be set at absolute minimum'

The Taoiseach has said any charge for the provision of water meters will be kept to the "absolute minimum".

Enda Kenny was reacting to weekend reports suggesting that meters would cost households around €300.

Mr Kenny said no decision had been taken on the issue as yet.

He told Midwest Radio that he is "only too aware" of the financial pressures people are under, and said that any cost to householders would be kept as low as possible.

"Obviously when you provide water meters, somebody's got to pay for them," he said. "I'm very cognisant of the difficulties many families face (and) we will keep any charge that's involved here to the absolute minimum."
