Taoiseach to visit scene of trawler tragedy

04/02/2012 - 09:17:43
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny is expected to visit Union Hall in County Cork today to meet with the familes of the fishermen who drowned in the Tit Bonhomme tragedy three weeks ago.

The trawler sank early on Sunday, January 15, when it struck rocks close to the entrance of Glandore Harbour in heavy seas.

The bodies of crewmen Kevin Kershaw, Attea Shaban and Wael Mohamad were recovered nearby in the days following the disaster.

However, skipper Michael Hayes and crewmember Saied Aly Eldin remain unaccounted for.

One of the most intensive sea searches in the history of the State is due to wind down after this weekend.

In the meantime, Tim O'Keeffe of the Irish Coastguard has again appealed for experienced divers to help out as the operation enters its final days.
